BARNES CITY, Iowa (AP) — Southeastern Iowa law enforcement officials believe a pedestrian found dead on a Barnes City street died after being hit by a car.
The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office tells the Des Moines Register (http://dmreg.co/1RXu87I ) that it received a 911 call early Thursday morning reporting a victim in the street.
Arriving deputies found the victim in the 1200 block of Yale Avenue in Barnes City.
Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity.
The sheriff’s office says an autopsy will be completed Sunday at the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
